Description
Project one exercises contextualization, which is taking information and explaining the who, what, where, when, why, and/or how surrounding it. In other words, putting it into context. My project is on the effects of World War One on the 1920 Olympic Games in Antwerp. I have art, English, and history class. I looked into economic, social, and political events leading up to the games and the noticeable impacts those things had.
Art
For art I decided I would make a pop-up card. This card depicts a victorious athlete emerging and shining among the ruin of a destructed city. It was sort of supposed to be like a Phoenix rising up out of the ashes thing. I'll admit, it was fairly rushed and not well thought out, so the story probably won't be all too interesting. I chose to paint my figure to make him very apparent against the background, and to make the background in colored pencil to, y'know, make it blend into the background. This sort of backfired since I decided to do big shapes in colored pencil rather than small details. I've contextualized through this piece by attempting to show that even through peril and destruction, sports and entertainment persist. Joy and victory persist.
English & History
I had decided to combine my history and English and create an informative essay for both. I contextualized my info in my paragraphs writing to explain it. I wrote 4 body paragraphs, one about the Siege of Antwerp (the host city), one on the economic issues that occurred, one on the effects of said economic issues, and one on politically based decisions made regarding the Olympics. I, course had also written an introduction and conclusion, however they're less notable.
